Does a hamster that is not pregnant have purple-pink nipple spots?

In my experience, you cannot really see the teats on a female who is not pregnant. If she has a pretty big belly and you see nipples that stick out a bit, chances are she is pregnant. This is how it happened with the russian dwarfs I have cared for anyway.
